明日は夜7時から東京・大崎にあるヴァージンカフェでルーム・トゥ・リードのイベント「Beats for Books」が開催される。ビール１杯飲むと、１ドルがRTR経由で寄付されて、途上国の子どもたちのための本になるという画期的な仕組みだ。
元々は同様の試みだった「Beer For Books」というイベントのスピンアウト企画でもある。
誰もがアフガニスタンやスリランカに行って人道支援活動はできないが、このようなイベントなら誰でも参加でき、自分たちも楽しみながら社会貢献できる。自分を犠牲にしてまで社会貢献しても本末転倒だし、これくらいのユルさが多くの人にとって受け入れやすいものではないだろうか。
ルーム・トゥ・リードが主催するイベントのなかでは最も親近感を覚えるイベントだ。セレブ限定のファンドライディングパーティーなんて行っても疎外感だけ受けるが、こういうイベントならば参加したいと思う。

Please join us for the world premiere of Beats for Books at the Virgin Cafe in Osaki. For those of you new to B4B, the concept is simple: For every drink you have, $1 will be donated to Room to Read and that buys a treasured book for children via Room to Read.
Room to Read is an amazing NPO whose mission is to provide quality educational opportunities to children in developing countries with the goal of empowering kids via literacy.
